Eleanor McLeod

ELEANOR MCLEOD  MA (Ed) Cert. Ed. LLAM (Hons) STSD

Eleanor McLeod comes from Swansea in Wales where she began her teaching career and gained a love of performing and the spoken word through the LAMDA examinations. She then became a professional actress for more than twenty years, frequently presenting Shakespeare to schools all over the world as part of the British Council’s Drama in Education programme as well as appearing on stage, television and being heard on radio in the UK.

In 1984 after the birth of her son Thomas, she returned to the classroom where all the old favourites and many new ones were tried and enjoyed once again.

Eleanor is currently a teacher of Speech and Drama, a member of the LAMDA Examining Board and a British and International Federation of Festivals adjudicator, work which has taken her on her travels again from Singapore to Sri Lanka as well as Africa, the Middle East, China and Europe. She still performs – when she has time, and as a writer, has realised a long standing ambition to have two books of her poems published, called  “POEMS FOR CHILDREN TO ENJOY – AND TEACHERS TOO”.  and “MORE POEMS FOR CHILDREN TO ENJOY AND TEACHERS TOO” and her popular collections of “SCENES FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS TO ENJOY”.

As a teacher of the LAMDA Speech and Drama syllabus, a member of the LAMDA Examining board and adjudicator for the British & International Federation of Festivals Eleanor realises how welcome and useful a collection of poems like this will be to teachers and performers.

Eleanor also belongs to a company called “Celtic Pride” who perform readings on a theme as specially devised entertainment.

Because they were so often asked to perform at various local events, Eleanor McLeod and Dreena Morgan Harvey set up their own company and are always in demand for all sorts of functions from weddings to birthday parties, from festivals to charity events, from anniversaries to almost any other sort of celebration!

Entertainments take the form of rehearsed readings, all of which are researched especially for the occasion. They can last from half an hour to a whole evening’s entertainment and often include music as they are joined by fellow performers who can provide songs. Both professional actresses, Eleanor and Dreena bring their own brand of high class performance skills, vast knowledge of a range of all genres of literature and a delightful mixture of humour and the more serious when the occasion demands.
