The first collection of poems is ideal for the primary classroom as it covers seasonal topics such as Harvest, Halloween, Guy Fawkes Night, Christmas, Pancake Day, Easter and many others. There are also poems about the weather and about a variety of creatures which could be used to support the curriculum. Most of them have already been enjoyed by Eleanor McLeod’s discerning young pupils. Using poems such as these as a starting point for learning can be fun and informative.

She says, “As a teacher, examiner, and adjudicator in the exciting realm of speech and drama, I am all too aware of how difficult it is to find original and appealing scenes for young performers. The first collection of monologues and duologues is based on characters from familiar fairy stories, many by Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm, in which I have taken a different slant, often to modernise them. So, we have the Mother Bear who is aware of compensation culture. Others are more traditional. All of them have already been performed by keen young actors and actresses so I do hope you will enjoy performing them too.”

A new collection of scenes has now been published based on nursery rhyme characters and a book of short stories, “Stories for my grandchild” will be in publication soon.

These scenes have proved to be very popular and several have been included in the LAMDA Anthology as set scenes for examinations.

Following the enthusiastic reception for her first two collections of poems, Eleanor McLeod has now written another book, full of poems for the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms, as well as a lively selection on a variety of subjects, which will certainly be useful tor teachers as well as appealing to her young readers who have already enjoyed the rhymes and structures, use of words and
images of her imaginative verse.
